Admission criteria for acceptance into the UMTC PSEO program are evaluated on a holistic basis. Space is limited to 550−600 new students each year. Approximately 50% of applicants are admitted to the program. As a result, we unfortunately must deny admission to many well-qualified students.
The UMTC PSEO office is not part of the UMTC Office of Admissions, and the two offices maintain separate admission processes and criteria. If you are accepted into the UMTC PSEO program, it doesn't mean you are automatically admitted to the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate student. You'll want to apply for freshman admission if you decide to attend the U of M after high school graduation.
Primary Considerations
GPA (3.6 or greater high school unweighted GPA required)
Exceptions may be granted for School of Music applicants; see Step 2 in the Apply section above
Class rank (if available)
Rigor of courses (honors, accelerated, advanced, enriched, AP, CIS, AP, IB, other PSEO, etc.)
Successful grades in rigorous courses (B or higher to be competitive)
Secondary Considerations
Grade trends
Extenuating circumstances affecting grades (e.g., illness)
Additional test scores
ACT, ACT Aspire, Pre-ACT, PLAN, SAT, or PSAT scores are required if the applicant has less than one year of high school grades listed on their high school transcript. Test scores in all other cases are considered only if provided by the applicant or on the high school transcript
Course Selection Guide:
Each section below lists the courses that fulfill specific high school graduation requirements. Some subject areas may require you to take more than one class to fulfill the credit requirement.
****At the bottom of the page you can find an example of which courses you should take and when you should take them.
Scroll down on the sheet below to see courses for all subject areas.
LOGIC classes DO NOT count towards your required high school math credits.
